Improved healthcare, faster results, and rapid diagnosis await Filipinos as Maxicare Healthcare Corporation, a health maintenance organization (HMO) in the Philippines, recently partnered with digital solutions provider Advanced Abilities Solution Management and Services Inc. to introduce the latest healthcare innovation, AI SmartScan that allows rapid chest X-rays analysis and computerized tomography or CT scans.
“Back in the day, getting tested for various lung and heart diseases would cost a patient a rather large sum of money and a lot of time waiting for the results to arrive. With AI SmartScan, we can eliminate many factors that can add to a patient’s distress. In that sense, we can democratize patient care through an innovative solution that will invariably reduce hospitalization and rescue the already overburdened healthcare infrastructure in the country,” said Advanced Abilities Chief Technology Officer Christer Cruz during the partnership announcement.
Also present at the event were Maxicare CEO & President Christian S. Argos and Advanced Abilities CEO Angelo Antonio Buendia.
Powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, AI SmartScan is the latest innovative solution to help Radiologists read chest x-rays and CT scans in just two minutes. By using AI, digital chest scans are automatically assessed, providing accurate analyses of 25 different chest pathologies like tuberculosis (TB), pneumonia, lung nodules, emphysema (smoker’s disease), and cardiomegaly (enlarged heart), COVID-19, and even the early detection of lung cancer.
The spread of the COVID-19 virus pushed Maxicare to develop solutions that could help the healthcare industry during the pandemic outbreak. According to them, limiting the further spread of the virus entails rapid diagnosis and detection.
“We figured that one of the keys in limiting the contagion is rapid diagnosis. We can complete the process even before health risks become aggravated through the quick end-to-end health screening solution provided by the AI SmartScan. This technology could not have come at a more opportune time as Maxicare continues to find ways to improve its services for its clients,” Argos said.
The pandemic might have inspired Maxicare to discover such advancements; nevertheless, the AI SmartScan aims to improve and contribute to making the country’s overall healthcare system better and more cost-efficient. The company is also committed to finding ways to best expand patient care and save more lives.
“We are very happy to take part in the realization of Maxicare’s vision to bring the most efficient healthcare innovations closer to our customers. Through our partnership, we aim to boost healthcare infrastructure in the country for the benefit of the people.
Technological advances, after all, particularly artificial intelligence, hold an enormous position in saving the lives of millions of people around the world,” Buendia said.
